In To The Woods

This is a glossary of some of the common and exotic woods that I worked with.

Oak

Oak is a hard wood common to the Northern hemisphere particularly America, Europe and the United Kingdom. Its often quite dark compared to woods like Sycamore and Beech and is relatively dense. The grain pattern and markings often have tiny black flecks or stipes following the grain making it darker.

For me its a lovely wood to turn being quite stable and not prone to cracking or splitting although this depends on how well its been dried.
