Welcome To my website Artful Wood. My Name is David and although I have worked in the IT industry now for over 30 years my number one passion since school has been wood work. I’ve always loved the way an organic material with such diversity can be shaped and manipulated into beautiful permanent works of art.

Wood as a material has something in its very nature that add beauty before you even start. Whether that’s the texture or direction of the grain or the colour of the wood. The intricacy of Knots or the staining from Spalted wood. All this history within the wood itself adds to what your creating from the materials in hundreds of different ways. Often its not to cut or shape a piece of wood that the hidden depths of its beauty are revealed.

Recently I’ve been lucky to return to wood work, taking up wood turning as a hobby. With every piece of wood, I turn I learn more and discover new things that can be created from rough pieces of timber.

So why am I creating this website you may ask? Well first and most importantly its to document my journey as hone my skills and one day aspire to call myself a professional artist. Secondly its to inspire other people to come and appreciate wood working as a hobby, a craft or a career. And lastly its to keep track of all I’ve created and invite anyone who likes the pieces to get in touch.
